Prior to surgical procedures, independently sets up the sterile field with all required instrumentation, supplies, and medications During surgical procedures, organizes and handles all instrumentation, supplies, and medications on the sterile field Maintains aseptic technique Verifies surgical count accuracy Maintains a clean, safe environment Plans and discusses procedures with surgical professionals Communicates independently with patient and staff Assists with maintaining OR equipment Assists surgical team members with quality improvement activities Possess physical ability to stand for long periods of time, frequent moving, and lifting of patients and equipment required. OR Successful completion of a full 4-year college course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position or an internship in course matter that must include courses directly related to the work of the Surgical Technician position such as anatomy and physiology, surgical technology, aseptic techniques, etc. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. OR Combinations of successfully completed college level education and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include 4 year college courses directly related to the work of the Surgical Technician position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. For the GS 6 Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. In order to qualify using education, you must provide a copy of your official transcripts (these will not be returned to you). OR Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-07 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-07. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position.
