The Chaplain has full responsibility for providing a complete religious ministry to Veteran patients and their families. The Chaplain assesses religious, spiritual, moral, and ethical problems and plans and provides appropriate ministration, including individual in-depth pastoral ministry to Veteran patients and their families. Assess for and provide the religious, spiritual and/or pastoral care for Veterans and their family members within a pluralistic patient population in accordance with VHA policy assuring that the patient's right to free exercise of religion is upheld; and that patients are protected from proselytizing by staff, other patients, and visitors, regardless of faith group. Provide professional spiritual/pastoral counseling, assessment methods, and therapeutic interventions to Veterans/Family members and appropriately refer to Mental Health professionals regarding patients expressing evidence of suicidality, MST and a range of other Mental Health issues. Assess for the spiritual/pastoral care needs of Veteran patients and then use appropriate therapeutic models such as individual and/or group counseling to improve the mental health of Veteran patients. The incumbent will be a key member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Care Team. Perform and document a comprehensive spiritual assessment and identify patients' past/present religious and/or spiritual beliefs, practices and history, and any relevant religious, spiritual, moral, or ethical concerns, issues, distress, despair, or injury of Veterans. Develop a plan of care, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary treatment team, that incorporates spiritual, religious and pastoral care and counseling of patients as a component of the holistic care designed to promote healing and wellness. Provide quality, effective and timely spiritual/pastoral care to Veteran patients and their families by adhering to Customer Service ideals and concepts in support of the VA mission. Respond in a timely manner to all emergencies or crises when spiritual/pastoral care is appropriate in the medical facility. Determine the need for and provide regular/special worship services, at times and locations such that all patients will have access. Perform ordinances/sacraments and/or rituals to meet the unique needs of patients of his/her religious faith group. Uses available resources to foster ministry and facilitate the needs of Veterans of all faith groups, locating other VA Chaplains or community clergy to meet specific religious needs that cannot be met by the Chaplain. Assist healthcare providers and treatment teams in recognizing and addressing the spiritual/pastoral care needs of Veteran patients. Provide invocations, or non-denominational prayers at facility observances of national holidays, memorials and special events. Collaborate with Voluntary Service and others to provide Chaplain assistance for various programs/events throughout the year. Collaborate with community organizations, both religious and secular, and participates in community organizations and activities to assist in integrating the functions of the medical facility into the larger community. While on-call, immediately respond to calls from medical center staff to provide spiritual/pastoral care. Cooperate with and participate in community organizations and activities in order to assist in integrating the functions of the medical facility. Communicate effectively with persons of diverse races, cultures, religions, nationalities, ages, and persons having varying types and degrees of disability, in order to understand and address their specific needs. Officiate funerals/interment/memorial services for Veterans as directed. Support programs, including EEO/Affirmative Action and Drug Free Workplace programs that enhance the work environment for all employees and help achieve the goal to be an employer of choice. Document patient assessments, encounters, treatment provided, and ministry in electronic records systems. Ensure accurate health care records on all patients, protect patient health care information ensuring ethical professional standards, and promote continuity of care. A Master of Divinity from an accredited institution or the equivalent. Equivalent education is a bachelor's degree (of at least 120 semester hours) from an accredited institution plus at least 70 graduate semester hours which included all of the following:
at least 20 semester hours in pastoral ministry; 20 semester hours in any combination of theology, ethics, and philosophy of religion; 20 semester hours in the study of sacred writings, including the study of languages in which sacred writings are written; and 10 semester hours in religious history and/or world religions. Evidence of M.Div. or Letter of Equivalency for M.Div. from the National VA Chaplain Center must be uploaded in the application materials. In addition to the education requirement, applicants must have completed at least 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) as defined by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) or the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC). 800 hours of supervised ministry in a formal training program which incorporated both ministry formation and pastoral care skills development will be considered for equivalency to the required CPE. Evidence of two units of CPE or Letter of Equivalency for CPE from the National VA Chaplain Center must be uploaded in the application materials. Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work can help build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicant must have a a minimum of two years of ministry experience following completion of the basic education described under Education above which has demonstrated both practical pastoral knowledge and skill, and the ability to minister in a pluralistic setting. Supervised or guided pastoral experience completed during graduate professional education may be credited for up to 1 of the 2 years of experience required for GS-11. Substitution of Education for

Successful completion of a doctoral degree which is directly related to pastoral ministry, at an accredited college or university, may be substituted for 1 of the 2 years of required experience (unless the doctoral degree is being used to satisfy the minimum educational requirement). In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicant must have a minimum of three years of ministry experience following completion of the basic education described under Education above which has demonstrated both practical pastoral knowledge and skill, and the ability to minister in a pluralistic setting. One year of the experience must have demonstrated all of the following:
(a) ability to serve as a consultant or expert to a multidisciplinary treatment team; (b) in-depth knowledge of related professional fields, particularly in the behavioral sciences; (c) understanding of, and ability to respond to, the particular concerns and issues pertaining to treatment of veterans; (d) knowledge of the structure, regulations, practices, and programs of healthcare delivery systems; (e) ability to interpret and apply a body of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in professional practice; (f) ability to develop and maintain liaisons with a variety of outside organizations. 5. English Language Proficiency:

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
